In loving memory of Marie Michaelle Santil. Poet. Activist. Artist. 1979-2020.
A friend shared her story of sexual assault with me. She wasn't ready to share it with the world in a way that would expose her identity. I told her that I'd post it for her. After trying to figure out a way to tell it, I thought about making a film and offering to others the opportunity to tell their stories as well. I put a call out on social media. Three others submitted their stories. This is merely a small sampling of personal accounts of sexual assault. When I look around me, more than 90% of the women I know have been the victim of sexual assault. I would say about 30% of the men I know also have been. That number could be higher because men are less likely to share their experiences.
If you have been a victim of sexual assault and need assistance, please talk to someone. A friend, a trusted family member, a national resource like www.rainn.org, www.nsvrc.org, or, www.acf.hhs.gov.
If you need immediate assistance please call 911.
If you want to tell your story, either anonymously or not, feel free to reach out to me and I can try to help with that.
