This woman has loved JAY-Z since before Beyonce. When I asked her about a playlist she said, "Literally anything JAY-Z." I should have known. This isn't her first time in front of my camera. The last time she was just as giggly - wait, no - full of belly laughs as this time. She claims she has no sexy face and that she's nothing but awkwardness. She also couldn't decide on wardrobe. She had purchased a million things from Shein but nothing seemed right. I told her, "I got you." And I did. I had just opened the boxes with the hot pink fishnets, 70s-style silver shorts, and oversized sunglasses and thought those would be just perfect with her braids and the Sex does a body good shirt I've had in the client closet for years. She totally rocked the outfit. We ended up taking the shorts off - they're a little too high-wasted for the aesthetic I was going for.
This session was in the water... two days after the 92 degree day we had. It was about 70 degrees during our session. Of course it was. That's just how it goes sometimes. I hadn't been to that spot in a hot minute, and the water level had risen tremendously in such a short period of time. It actually worked out beautifully because she was able to lie in the water and submerge more of her body with very little effort and scooching further in.
Those beautiful braids were carefully crafted by El Shaddai's Salon in Milford, Massachusetts.
What were you most nervous about heading into your session?
What wasn’t I nervous about? I didn’t know what to wear. I didn’t know what not to wear. The internet wasn’t helpful. I also was super self conscious about my inability to “look sexy”. I don’t make sexy faces or strike sexy poses, so combine that with my Punky Brewster mismatched bathing suit pieces, I had plenty to be nervous about.
How did your session compare to how you thought it would be?
It was so fun. Erica had costume pieces and accessories which were completely different than anything I had thought to bring. I also had no clue what to expect being in the water, but she made it super comfortable.
What was your favorite part of your experience?
I loved wearing the wings! I loved trying to follow directions to find out my face doesn’t do this or my leg does infact do that…. I enjoyed splashing in the water and being a little goofy.
How do you feel now that you've experienced the session?
So great! I love my pictures. They really helped me see my physical self in a positive light.
Would you recommend an Intimate Portraiture Session with Erica Chick to others?
1000% yes
What was your absolute most favorite photo from your session and how does it make you feel?
I think I have two: I love the pictures with the wings. They’re sexy and playful at the same time. I also really like the close up on with my head in water and my arm over my head. It’s more sexy and bad ass at the same time.
